Zeyze loves you

I hope it's not disturbing to anyone to see a video of my father; I've gone both ways and wasn't sure if I should post it. Please do not view if it will bring you sorrow.

I made this video with my Dad during my first visit to Minnesota at the end of April. We were walking down the hall to physical therapy (he is in a wheelchair), because we were confident that he was going to get better and go home. On the way, I asked him if he would help make a video for my kids, and this is what we made:

(My oldest son used to have trouble with the title "Zeyde" [Yiddish for grandpa] and used to call my Dad "Zeyze".  My father loved the nickname, and would use it to refer to himself, even though my son can now say "Zeyde" with aplomb.)

I've watched this video hundreds of times in the months since we made it. When he was getting sicker, it gave me a lot of comfort, because he could still tell us he loved us. Now it is hard to watch, and makes me cry, because I miss him and I wish he could tell me he loves me again.

Even so, I am grateful to have it to show the kids in my family - because he loves all of us, he always has, and I like being able to show them that.
