"I was so sorry to hear about your father's death. I'll never forget how persistent he was in trying to get me a job when I was looking. (He re-wrote my whole resume!) He clearly had a huge heart and immense love for his family. I'm sure he will be fondly remembered by many."
This is a pretty typical experience with my dad - the very (occasionally overly) exuberant efforts in career guidance (sometimes solicited, sometimes unsolicited).
